Tech N9ne, or Aaron Dontez Yates was born on November 8, 1971 in Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Many people were surprised how early he began rapping. The smart boy liked to rap the letters of his name and other words to remember how to spell them. It all started when Aaron’s father left and seldom communicated with his son and his mother fell ill with lupus and epilepsy. Small Aaron started to “search for God” to drive his frustrations away by music.
Yatez started rapping as a member of a group Black Mafia formed in 1991. They became successful with their single “Let’s Get Screwed Up” and soon the guy started working with the group called Nnutthowze and in 1993 signed with Perspective Records. At that time the majority of fans knew Aaron as Tech N9ne – the guy once was called a TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun by rapper Black Walt for his fast rhyming style and liked this nickname so much that turned it into his stage name. Later the rapper was surprised to reveal a deeper meaning of his name – it meant the complete technique of rhyme with 9 representing numbers 3 and 6 and 0 meaning the heard way to perfection. For about 4 years Tech N9ne has been searching for the best rapping possibilities by changing groups and labels. In 1997 Yates finally joined The Regime formed by rapper Yukmouth, and the following year brought him real success – a soundtrack for the film Gang Related. In 1999 Tech N9ne appeared on the famous song “The Anthem” by Sway & King Tech.
The same year when Tech N9ne was 28, he and his partner Travis O’Guin founded the record label Strange Music. Since then Yates enjoyed real success – he sold over a million albums and has had his pieces of music featured in films, television, and video games.
